Beware of Phishing

Phishing is a type of deception designed to obtain and use your personal data (e.g. credit card numbers, passwords, account data, etc.) for fraudulent purposes.

Con artists send thousands of “spoofed” e-mail messages (or even SMS messages) that appear to come from a source you trust, like your bank, and request from you to provide personal information via e-mail or redirect you to illegitimate websites, identical to the original, created by them for this purpose.

Email “spoofing” is when an email message appears to have originated from one source when it actually was sent from another source. For example, you may receive an email claiming to be from a financial institution requesting customers to send their credit card numbers, PIN numbers or to change their PIN numbers.

Tips to Protect Yourself from Phishing

If you receive a suspicious e-mail that appears to be from Oman Arab Bank, please do the following:

  • Do not respond to the message, or click on any of the links, or change the e-mail in any way.
  • Report to us immediately by phone: 24754444 or send it by email: infosec(at)

Check to make sure that your virus definitions and anti-spyware are up-to-date and scan the computer, especially if you accidentally clicked on the link or attachment in the e-mail.

Other Tips to Safeguard Your Personal Information

  • Enter credit card and personal information when it involves a transaction you initiate and only on websites you trust.
  • Always use a Secure Website when submitting credit card numbers or personal information online.
  • Regularly monitor your account activity to detect fraudulent transactions.
  • Avoid accessing your on-line banking services in open, public areas like internet cafes.
  • Consider subscribing to SMS service to receive immediate notifications on any transaction on your accounts.

Management of Information Obtained Electronically

Personal information received through electronic channels, including Oman Arab Bank Website, or Internet Banking Services, is safeguarded to ensure your privacy and protection. Information collected may be used to meet your banking needs, improve upon our products and services, measure the number of visitors to the different areas of this site, as well as identify opportunities that will enable us to better serve you.

“Never reveal your PIN or password to anyone; Oman Arab Bank will NEVER ask you for this information by email or any other mean!”

How Do We Protect You?

Information Security

Keeping your financial and personal information secure and confidential is one of our most important responsibilities. Your information remains secure because of strict administrative, physical, and technical controls which are implemented in our work environment and applied to our services and systems.

Consider using a token device to generate a hard-to-guess password. Oman Arab Bank Internet Banking service supports this security feature.

Oman Arab Bank online services and IT infrastructure are periodically assessed, tested and hardened according to industry best practices, standards and regulatory requirements. On the other hand, monitoring the availability of our services is of utmost importance as well, while maintaining a structured level of security and controls to ensure early detection of incidents, and proper management of those being identified according to a devoted incident management framework.

Protecting Against Identity Theft

Criminal activity including identity theft and fraud are more prevalent today than ever before. In an effort to obtain personal information about you, criminals may approach you pretending that they are a representative of an institution with which you do business. For this reason, ensure you know or can verify the identity of an individual or entity prior to responding, either verbal or electronic, to requests, for personal or banking related information. Note that Oman Arab Bank does not request such information either via phone or email. Should you receive a similar request, please contact us and report it immediately.
